I went to see this movie today all by myself.
Got my money right, bought a ticket and got a good seat. It was half crowded, but I was able to keep my coat on the seat next to me. I fielded 3 calls and set up an interview with a possible publicist before the flick came on.
An hour in, I cried.
That's right, Bru'man cried Martin.
And it had nothing to do with a bunch or frigedators with glass doors that I could not open.
It was Jennifer.
Jennifer, oh Jenny.
I ain't the one all up in award show hype, but I really hope she wins everything she gets nominated for.
She was that damn good.

Hey, I heard she IS the movie. I have a couple of people telling me that in the theatre she is getting a standing 'O' after one of her songs!
WoW ...
I tried to get tickets but advance purchase has messed me up and it's sold out until tomorrow out here! I figure by Thursday I can go and quietly watch the movie!
I plan to see it here this week myself...
Julia...?
Aww, it takes a strong man to feel emotions, express and admit them. Kind-hearted lion brotha. :)
I do not think I am gonna go see the movie. I am not really into musicals like that
Wow, you cried? that's heartwarming to hear you express yourself this way, she must have been good, I can't picture you breaking down the way you did :) Now i'm more than ever curious to go watch it.
Okay, look...
I didn't 'break down' all in the middle of the theater. I was blessed 20 years ago to go on a field trip and see the musical on stage. I cannot remember which ensemble did thier thing, but I do remember the hoopla and the funds the fam had to raise to get me there.
I remembered the point of the end of the first act. Jenn definately understood that point of the production and was able to correctly channel emotion, not voice or the ability to carry a tune in that moment. Bundle that with the moment of the turn of the piece and you will get choked up and shed a tear or two. It is that powerful of a performance.
Raw power from Eddie and Jennifer in the first act will bring you to trust the protagonist and feel for her in the first act.
Jamie being able to bend from the norm and become his character without peeking from behind the mask will carry you thru the second.
Acknowledging Beyonce as who she is (she damn near pulls a Beyonce) along with a very powerful Eddie Murphy performance and recognizing that Jennifer is the next big thing will have you standing in applause at the end of the third.
And I am telling you... It's that damn good. I got choked up and shed a few tears at the end of the first piece.
You know I was going to comment until I just happened to view your profile and I saw where one of your fav movies is Ghost Dog. WTF?
Woo, woo, woo, Hassan... here's a intannet tissue...
Yeah bruh, the movie was good, definitely a must see...
All I know... if Beyonce wins awards for her performance and Jennifer don't, then, um... the Hollywood ish is rigged.
That's all I have to say about that.
okay you tellin how wonderful Jen's performance was in this movie and ALL my azz can think about after I read the word "movie" was, DID YOU GET ANY HOT BUTTERED POPCORN? With some jalepenos on the side and a big azz sprite with red hi-c punch. LOL! You gone have to stop mentioned food cuz then that's the only thing in my head once you do. Laaawd.
i may wait until new year's day to see this. a movie would be nice :)
Miss Jennifer's got me all shook up too, and it's got nothing to do with her acting and singing. That is one fine azz sista mannn... I'm not into musicals, but I'm trying to see this in the movies before escaping to DVD. But I can wait until the rush dies down in a couple of weeks. Kudos on the review my man...
Aint nothing like an emotional man i found that to be very sexy
Well damn.
I cried last night when I realized that I wasn't getting none...
I saw it today. You're right on all counts, especially about Jennifer. My eyes teared up, too, and I wasn't expecting that.
I also agree with Luke. Jennifer is stunning. Beyonce has nothing on her.
WOW! I can't wait to see it this Sunday.
I've seen it twice already. Jennifer is awesome!
I took my best friend, Femigog, to see it last weekend. I warned her that Jennifer "put it down". As usual she was skeptical, but she ended up leaving the theater highly impressed and ready to see it again. I hope Jennifer and Eddie win for their performances.
My husband's favorite movie is Ghost Dog, too. I hated that movie!
