Your comment applies to the events occurring within the Black community among males and females.
There are individuals who we refer to as "captain-save-a-hoe" or in the females case, "sugar mama." I am in no way inflicting judgment on these individuals, but assuming these positions when you are emotionally and economically unstable is nonsense. In my field,I have witnessed many females who were willing to spend their entire income tax check on a set of rims for their boyfriend's car, while they were struggling to care for their three children. I originally concluded that these women were emotionally distracted by the sex, but my following assumption was unequivocally accurate, we are sometimes just desperate for a man.
On the other hand, I am unable to understand the psyche of males who depend on their women for financial support. There are some instances when a man has been layed off from work and actively searching for employment. However, that thought was proven inaccurate during a visit to a client's home. This client allowed her recently released boyfriend to sit and eat on her couch while she worked two jobs. He did not want to work, he did not want to take care of the kids, and was physically and emotionally abusive. Despite my constant motivational interviewing techniques, this young woman finalized her position in society and refused to leave this man. In the end, her children were removed from the home. She remains with her abusive man till this day. She was an intelligent young woman who had the capacity to do great things, like all of our black people. I wish black people would stop selling themselves short.
